Indian (Native American) student tuition aid files 1962-1988

The series consists of tuition records and associated files concerning financial aid to Native American post-secondary students between 1962 and 1988. The bulk of the records are financial ledgers, notebooks, and administrative reports. These three formats track the students' application and qualification for assistance, as well as verification of eligibility and dispersal of post-secondary financial aid for each academic year. The administrative reports (based on the other two formats) typically show student name, reservation, home address, school, date of birth (sometimes), percentage of aid used, and grant amount (by semester). Also present is a small amount of administrative financial records of the Native American Education Unit, including budgets, state fund encumbrances (a practice by which a portion of a total budget is dedicated to a specific purpose - in this case conference meetings), and financial program requests.
